Create tags and merge duplicates
Where: Admin → Content → Forum structure → Tags
Before you start
These are content labels, not permission groups. Prefixes/suffixes decorate topic names; tags let readers find related topics, downloads and blog posts.
Step by step
- Create a group first if you want labels organised into buckets.
- Add the name and colour. For a prefix/suffix choose its type, group and forum-category scope.
- Save, then open a topic composer to check the available labels or tag autocomplete.
- Use the existing row controls to change colour/group or make a category-scoped label global.
Settings and behaviour
These are content labels, not permission groups. Prefixes/suffixes decorate topic names; tags let readers find related topics, downloads and blog posts.
Deleting a label group does not delete its items. A category-scoped label is offered for that forum; “None — all forum categories” makes it global. Tag names are compared without case/spacing distinctions. The Tags duplicate-merge control keeps the most-used row, moves topic links, preserves its colour and removes duplicate rows after a recovery backup. Take and retain that backup before merging. The maximum tags per post/resource is on Settings.
Check the result
Create a test topic with a label/tag and follow the resulting tag link. Confirm a scoped label is not incorrectly offered elsewhere.
Common questions and troubleshooting
A tag is not offered: check its spelling, scope and the allowed tag count. Duplicates after import: use the duplicate report and merge action; do not delete arbitrary rows directly.
