Publish RSS feeds of public topics
Where: Admin → System → Communications → RSS feeds
Before you start
RSS publishes public topics only; hidden/member-only/role-restricted categories are excluded. Feed publication is the opposite direction from Feed importer. A stored menu link alone does not enable a feed.
Step by step
- Enable the feeds you want to publish and set count/excerpt choices.
- Save changes and copy the feed addresses shown on the screen.
- Open each address in a feed reader.
- Test that a topic in a restricted category is absent.
Settings and behaviour

The feeds
| Control | What to enter / effect |
|---|---|
| Publish rss.xml and atom.xml | Switching this off leaves the sitemap and robots.txt alone; it only stops the two reader documents. Initial default: 1. |
| Entries per feed | The newest threads, newest first. Initial default: 40. |
| Include each thread's opening post | Off gives links and titles only, which some boards prefer for a long-running thread. Initial default: 1. |
Check the result
Verify output title/canonical addresses and public-only contents.
Common questions and troubleshooting
Feed empty: check enablement and eligible public topics. Wrong host in links: set Canonical URL. Want to import another feed: use Feed importer instead.
