Rename a topic and correct an existing post

Where: Topic → topic/post menu → Edit

Before you start

Topic titles and reply bodies have different edit forms. Author/staff permissions determine whether the action is offered. Deleting the first post or whole topic has much wider effects than correcting text.

Steps

1. Use Edit topic on your permitted thread and enter the new Topic title.
2. Save title; use Cancel to discard the title edit.
3. For a post, open its own menu and Edit rather than the topic-level title action.
4. Change its body, supply Reason for edit if needed and Save changes.
5. Check the saved title/body on a fresh page load.

Verify

The topic list shows the new title and the intended post shows the correction without an extra duplicate reply.

Troubleshooting

If Edit is absent, ask staff about ownership/permissions. If an old theme only refreshes, record core/theme version and compare the default theme before repeatedly submitting.
