Handle reports, approvals and staff notes
Where: Admin → Moderation → Moderation queue, or the front-end Moderation panel
Before you start
Moderators can work the front-end panel without full administration. Notes are visible to staff, not the member. A report resolution and a content deletion have different consequences; read the confirmation before deleting.
Step by step
- Read an open report and the reported content in context.
- Choose Dismiss, Hide content, Delete content or Suspend author; add a staff note explaining the decision.
- Under Approvals review held writing and Approve or Reject it.
- Use the Suspensions list to lift a suspension when appropriate.
- Choose a member under Staff notes, write private context and Save note. Review the action log.
Settings and behaviour
Moderators can work the front-end panel without full administration. Notes are visible to staff, not the member. A report resolution and a content deletion have different consequences; read the confirmation before deleting.
The new-member approval gate queues topics/replies until the configured post count is reached. A value of zero means every post needs approval while the gate is on. Word filters and spam heuristics can also hold content; inspect the recorded reason rather than assuming the member broke a rule.
Check the result
Confirm approved content becomes public, hidden content is unavailable to ordinary readers and the staff log records the action.
Common questions and troubleshooting
Repeated holds: check new-member threshold, word filters and spam score. Empty tables/schema notice: an administrator must run the database upgrade.
