Choose rule caching and understand database authority
Where: Protection settings → Caching
Steps
- Start with Off and review baseline correctness.
- Choose private File, Automatic/APCu or the supported Redis rule-cache option only when its runtime is available.
- Set the rule-cache lifetime and save.
- Change a test rule through Sentinel and confirm the database revision invalidates stale snapshots.
- Return to Off if investigating cache configuration, without deleting rule data.
Check the result
Cache failures fall back to database rule reads. Rule caching is separate from request counters, events and blocks.
If it does not work
Private temporary cache storage inside the public forum root is refused. Direct SQL edits outside Sentinel can bypass revision invalidation until expiry. Cache selection alone is no promised speedup.
